Berthe Mouchette
Competition

What is the Berthe Mouchette Competition?

The Berthe Mouchette Competition is an opportunity for students to practice their French language skills by participating in a competition with great prizes to be won!

There are both oral and written categories, as well as a drawing competition for primary level participants.

  • Years 3-10 recital of a French poem
  • Years 11-12 general conversation and recital of a French poem or presentation of a theme or an image
  • Years 9-12 written test papers - based on Victorian Secondary School Standards

Every year for over a century, thousands of young Victorians have been bringing French poetry to life in the antipodes of France. The Berthe Mouchette Competition is a unique and memorable experience for the candidates that reinforces the vitality of French in Australia.

The Berthe Mouchette Competition takes its name from the first president of the Alliance Française de Melbourne.
