Gratin Dauphinois (recipe)

12/10/2021

Recipe: Gratin Dauphinois is always a good idea!

Gratin Dauphinois is a world-known dish from the former province of Dauphiné in the southeast of France. It can be served as a side dish, with meat or vegetables, or on its own. It is made by brushing the inside of a baking dish with garlic, layering thin slices of potatoes, and baking them in the oven with milk and cream. The perfect combination when it comes to comfort food and always a great idea for rainy Spring days.

Ingredients:

Steps:

  1. Preheat oven to 180°C
  2. Peel the potatoes and cut crosswise into 1/4-inch slices
  3. Rub the inside of the dish with garlic and stack the potatoes in layers, sprinkling each layer of potato with salt and pepper and topping it with sage
  4. Chop the remaining ingredients and incorporate the milk and cream, season lightly and drizzle over the potato slices.
  5. Place in the fridge for 30 minutes to marinate.
  6. Bake in the oven at 180°C for 40 minutes.
  7. Remove from the oven and leave it to cool at room temperature for 20 to 30 minutes before serving.
  8. Optional: an extra step is to sprinkle some grated cheese over the potatoes before cooking!
