With all eyes on Francophone cinema right now, it's the perfect time to shine a spotlight on our friends up in Quebec - they're cooking up some seriously good stuff on the silver screen! Did you know Canadians are serious about keeping their French traditional, often more so than in France? That dedication adds authenticity to their movies, like a sprinkle of magic.
So, what's the deal with Quebecois cinema? Let's start with a name: Xavier Dolan. This talented director has been causing a stir in the film world, both domestically and internationally, with his groundbreaking work. With accolades from Cannes to the César Awards, Dolan's films have earned him a reputation for pushing boundaries and captivating audiences worldwide.
Another gem is Monia Chokri, an actress who has not only graced the screen of many of Dolan’s movies, but also secured the title for Best Foreign Movie at the César Awards for her own movie, “The Nature of Love”, beating even Oppenheimer!
Speaking of which, mark your calendars for next Thursday, March 28th, when the Alliance Française French Film Festival is hosting a CinéWine:
Canada Night
with a special screening of “The Nature of Love” at Palace Cinema Como! It's the perfect chance to dive headfirst into the world of
Quebecois cinema and experience the magic for yourself, whilst enjoying a complimentary glass of wine or Canadian cocktail from Spirits
of France.
So, looking to switch up your movie night routine? Give Quebecois cinema a whirl!
